Religious Education (RE)
The school has no specific denominational affiliation and our RE follows the REact Kent Agreed Syllabus 2006, as required by law (1996 Education Act and the 1998 Schools Standard and Framework Act). The Syllabus focuses mainly on Christianity, with Hinduism and Judaism at Key Stage 1 and Judaism, Islam and Sikhism at Key Stage 2. We use schemes of work adapted from a scheme devised by Canterbury Diocese for Church of England schools. These documents may be seen at the school, along with our RE policy statement. Our aim is to promote respect for pupils own world views and those of others, whilst fostering enquiring and open minds. In learning about and from other religions, as well as Christianity, we hope to promote positive attitudes towards the beliefs and ways of life of the different members of our multi-cultural society.
Parents have the right to withdraw their child from all or part of RE. We ask that they discuss this fully with the Headteacher before making a decision.
‘A pupil who is wholly or partly excused from receiving Religious Education provided by the school may receive Religious Education of the kind desired by the parents provided it does not entail any expenditure of the responsible authority’
