Curriculum Overview
At Phoenix, each year group from Foundation Stage to Year six, work on the same theme during the same term. There are three historical topic focuses and three geography focuses in respective terms. This gives us the opportunity to showcase progression across each year group. Our children’s learning is captured in their learning journey, sketch book, floor book as well as Seesaw.
Our subject leaders take an active role in ensuring that their curriculum objectives are being met and are assessed against the national curriculum.
Classroom teachers encourage the children to answer questions in full sentences, using vocabulary modelled to them by the teacher; they may partake in low stake quizzes throughout the topic to ensure that key facts and information are regularly revisited. Where links are possible, children are taught in a cross curricular manner to aid knowledge and skill retention.
