The table below shows which units of work are taught in which term and is the first year of a two year cycle.
Units such as Seasonal change in Year 1 are taught over the course of the academic year so as to meet all unit objectives. ‘Empty’ blocks are used to extend topics further, consolidate learning, complete units (short terms), focus on enquiry skills or touch on scientific themes specific to topic work.
The week beginning 8th June 2015 was Science week. Our theme was ‘Let’s Get Real!’
During the week lots of visitors came in to talk to us about how science is used in their jobs and what inspired them when they were at school. Our aim was to inspire children to think about science beyond their weekly lessons, and see the wide range of careers that use science in one way or another.
Science is taught mainly following the Kent Scheme of Work with links to our ‘Creative Curriculum’ focussing on investigative practical activities. It develops our children’s planning, predicting and observational techniques and encourages them to both interpret results and draw conclusions by relating to their experience, knowledge and understanding of the real world.
